Jaguar XE Dashboard Symbols
When you’re crusing around the greater Cleveland area in your Jaguar XE, we want you to feel poised, confident, and in-control, even if you see a symbol illuminate on the dashboard. That’s why the team at Jaguar Westside created this guide to the Jaguar XE dashboard symbols our Parma and Garfield Heights area customers ask us about most often.
In our guide, we’ll cover common warning lamps and indicators and what to do if you see one.
Types of Jaguar XE Dashboard Symbols
There are three levels of dashboard symbols that you’ll encounter: red, amber/yellow, and green/blue.
- Red symbols are primary warning symbols and require immediate prompt attention.
- Amber and yellow symbols are secondary warnings and indicate a potential system malfunction or that a vehicle system is in operation.
- Blue and green symbols indicate a system’s status and no action is required.
We’ll cover red, amber, and yellow symbols here.
Jaguar XE: Red Dashboard Symbols
Many of these symbols will also be accompanied by a message in the instrument panel, so be sure to check there, as well.
Critical Warning Message: The image of a red exclamation mark in a triangle indicates that there’s an important warning message displayed in the instrument panel. Check the message and perform the necessary actions.
Battery Charge: If you see a red lamp that looks like a battery, there could be a fault with the battery charging system. Pull over as soon as it’s safe and seek assistance from a qualified Jaguar technician.
Brake: This symbol spells out the word “BRAKE” and could mean either low brake fluid or a braking system fault. Either way, do not continue driving your vehicle. Stop the car as soon as it’s safe to do so and contact your local Jaguar dealership.
Engine Temperature: If you see an image of a thermometer or dipstick being dipped in liquid, your engine temperature is too high and is at risk of overheating. Pull over once it’s safe, turn off the engine, and wait for the engine to cool down before continuing. If it doesn’t cool, schedule a service appointment as soon as possible.
Low Oil Pressure: A red dashboard symbol that looks like an oil can dripping liquid means that your oil level is low. Stop the car as soon as it’s safe to do so and contact your dealership. Do not continue driving with this symbol lit, as doing so can cause irreparable engine damage and/or overheating.
Yellow and Amber Dashboard Symbols
Check Engine: This is an amber symbol that looks like a car’s engine. If you see this symbol on your dashboard, there may be an emissions system fault. Your car may enter “limp-home mode,” which reduces vehicle performance to attempt to prevent engine damage. Drive to your nearest Jaguar service center as soon as possible.
If the symbol is flashing, reduce your speed and pull over as soon as it’s safe. Contact a Jaguar technician.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS): If you see a yellow symbol that looks like an exclamation mark in parentheses, one or more tires is significantly under-inflated. Inflate your tires to the recommended pressure as soon as possible to prevent uneven wear. If you inflate your tires and the symbol stays lit after a few normal driving styles, take your car to a Jaguar service center.
